Keeping a distance of over 1m from people, these fishes maybe well observed or even collected before. Male territorial and guarding an area of about 4-5m wide in open rock bed.

A baby fish in No.4592 is Rhinogobius fish, maybe R.nagoyae.
Sicyopterus species are difficult to take pictures.
And, S.largocephalus male change their body color so often,
You get a fine moment!

Welcome to my site and this BBS!
I am たろう(Taro), author of this site.
I have been to Ishigaki several times too.
I went to Miyara river to watch some "Yoshinobori"(Some species of Rhinogobius).
But it was more than 15years before...
The mudskippers in No.4571 and 4572 is Periophthalmus argentilineatus, as you identified.
Periophthalmus modestus is found in Okinawa island and northward, it is not found in Ishigaki.
The goby in No.4574 and 4575 is also as you identified,
Exyrias puntang, I think.

Is there any Sicydiins in Miyara or anywhere in Ishigaki around May-August? I want to take some photos of wild specimens.

Oh, so you think the smaller and lighter colour one in 4572 is also P. argentilineatus? The dorsal fins could not be seen... but possible for P. modestus or magnuspinnatus?

Hello Jason san,
We can see some Sicydiinae species in Ishigaki, but I have never seen in Miyara river.
We can find them more easy in Iriomote island.
I don't have detailed knowledge of Mudskippers,

It is very difficult that gobies in Okinawa islands expand their distribution to southward than to northward, because it is opposite direction to ocean current, I think.

I saw a photo of this goby in nature field for the first time!
This goby is rarely seen at aquarium shop in Japan.
The red color of dorsal fins is very beautiful !!

it was quite common in Hong Kong streams before but sadly the number has been declining due to pollution and habitat loss. it has a few color variants locally. this Rhinogobius species is relatively smaller than the Chinese or Japanese con-generics. the one is merely ca. 1cm long and very hard to find one in the stream :(

Oh, it is sad that the situation around this goby become worse...
Some species of Rhinogobius in Japan are in similar situation too...
It is common that Rhinogobius goby which lives in freshwater area in all its life is small.
The HongKong Rhinogobius is specially small !!
